Feature Proposal for Blender: Fit Selected to View in Sculpt Mode
Thank you so much :)
ah im going back to zbrush. there is so much limitations sculpting in blender. so sad the modeling tools is so good tho
Yep. You have to adapt your workflow if you want to use blender, but it does have other avantages over ZBrush like the Outliner, posing before/during sculpting (if you have a rig), simple Instance creation, etc.
Dude, cool work in the style of the recently released Ghost runner 2. There is one question, which brush did you use during 0.55 minutes of your video, please throw a link
I have an IMM brush called Cyber Muscles, which I sell on my website (first link in the description).
cool!
very cool!
Clean 👍
Thanks
Like some of the other comments said, I would STILL be willing to pay for a tutorial on this model. I know you are a fan of doing things the old school way. I would just be curious to see your methods for modeling such an intricate looking model.
Ah yes, my very first tutorial. Probably a good idea to make a new version of this. But this time it would be a Blender tutorial.
I think this could be done easier and with more consistent loop flow: drive.google.com/file/d/17v7dVGZAvFI1MmDvAPN4Bdqg0v4HdaJN/view?usp=sharing
It worked but not as well as your computer did Thanks I'm happy
I started doing 3d modeling about 3 months ago, thanks for the inspiration. You are a true legend in my eyes<3
Thanks, friend. I appreciate the kind words.
Another reason why I will never go back to blender. Cheap and developers dont take Graphics Detrimental Bugs seriously. Just keep overlapping problem after problem.
Thnkz for the Video! The recycle selections its awesome! Do u have any plan to do a course to switch from maya?
Thanks for watching. You think people need such a course?
@@ArmoredColony Yes! like me i try to switch to blender like 2 times but was too complex to learn everything without a guide, even the terminology its different and if u mess up any hotkey ur screw the hole blender functionality. I have a script for bevel vertex but only works on the corners not the inside vertex with faces arround... i try to replicate ur bevels steps on maya and its a pain...
@@blind8000ify I wouldn't mind making such a course, but it's not something I can suddenly create in an instant. Also, I'm in the middle of creating other courses so I wouldn't recommend waiting for what I make. Transitioning from one software to another will always be frustrating (maybe blender most of all) but don't let that become your excuse for not doing what you want to do. If I could learn blender then you can do it as well. If you don't like one blender tutorial, there's hundreds of others you might enjoy more, just keep trying.
THX SO MUCH THIS STILL WORKS ON BLENDER 4.1
XD
Can you update your blender maya script? The lattice tool isn't working properly on the latest blender verion
I noticed that problem and released an update but I think that fixing it for 4.1 broke it in older versions of Blender, basically reversing the problem. The description should have a GitHub link to the latest addon update. Let me know if it helps or not
@@ArmoredColony awesome, thank you, I'll try it out, really appreciate it
@ArmoredColony just tried it and it's working perfectly, thank you much appreciated
damn
jo, how u got that black n white blender theme, i wantr that too, looks dope!
Did you click like on your own comment :P I have a FREE addon that includes all my stuff (Theme, Matcaps, Scripts). After installing, there's a button in my addon preferences that says 'Load Theme'. Alternatively, you can just extract the .xml theme file and install it manually if you dont care about the other stuff. You can get it from Github or Gumroad: github.com/ArmoredColony/ARMORED-Toolkit or armoredcolony.gumroad.com/l/toolkit As to how I made that theme, I created an addon that speeds up the theme creation process: blendermarket.com/products/themecandy/ratings
@@ArmoredColony amazing thx a lot!
@@ArmoredColony jo baught u r addon, is there a way for u to add color change for the different area backgrounds too? id like to change most things that r grey to black with 1 click (it takes hours to adjust each panel look separetly...
@@ArmoredColony and it would be very cool to make icons non color, like all properties icons or outliner symbols i want them to be white... or black...
@@bUildYT I can add the Icon colors thing, the background stuff I'm not entirely sure how to approach but it's a good idea. I'll check it out and think about how it could be implemented because I would like to have that too.
Hey! I love the toolkit addon! Long time ago I tried to match my blender ui to Vitaly's softimage, I failed. Then I discovered your channel, got the addon and man, these scripts are gamechanger. I really like this fast workflow and custom keybindins. I saw you're using recently released Blender 4.1. Is there a chance you update the addon due to changes in smoothing?
Just updated it on Github and Gumroad. There's now 2 Autosmooth scripts: the new one for Blender 4.1 and the older way which I renamed to 'Autosmooth (Legacy)' If you don't have the addon with URL buttons in the preferences you can get it here: github.com/ArmoredColony/ARMORED-Toolkit or armoredcolony.gumroad.com/l/toolkit
I just checked emulate 3-button mouse option in Blender so no more middle mouse button navigation needed. Also Blender is pretty awesome to work with a graphic tablet.
Oh really, how do you navigate when you enable that option? And I agree. The less buttons you have to click on the stylus the more comfortable it is to use, but I feel it's the opposite when using a mouse. Whatever the case, I change most things to Blender Navigation if the option exists, to make going from one app to another more seamless.
@@ArmoredColony ctrl+alt+LMB to zoom, shift+alt+LMB to pan and alt+LMB to rotate. I know that you can assign the same in other softwares, except CAD software like Fusion 360 and Plasticity, they have only presets to choose from. With a graphic tablet it's better to have a small sized if used for modeling, i have a medium sized tablet and a laptop, so it's not that comfortable, but it was quite nice when using with a Desktop PC. With this emulate 3D mouse button option and graphic tablet, you don't have to click buttons on stylus and it feels more natural to your hand.
Finally someone who's not a Maya or Blender fanboy. Both of them has it's pros and cons. Blender is amazing for modeling, but the shortcut keys really annoy me. But I'm sure I can get used to it if I try hard enough. The only thing that Autodesk offers new for modeling in Maya 2025 is the Smart Extrude. You be the judge.
Tell me about it. I was actually using Plasticity at this very moment XD Whatever tool fits our current needs.
TY SO MUCH for the video "Fixing Seams in your Normal Map" you made 4 years ago. I whould never notice that i need to unlock normals and remark hard, soft edges -_- The bake looks much better now
I gotchu bro
i only clicked on this vid for the Fire Prelate armor nice to see my interests continually merging
Haha. Made me laugh when I put it on. My character went from skinny to obese in a sit second. Figured it might make someone else laugh.
Hi! thanks for the tutorial, and I think saving some custom hotkeys for the most used functions would be nice as you did on the video. Do you mind of sharing your hotkey setting?
I haven't uploaded my custom hotkeys and menus yet, but I will once I finish my next ZBrush tutorial. I'm changing them as I work on the tutorial, optimizing them. That's why I don't want to upload them until I'm finished.
@@ArmoredColony that sounds nice! Then I will look forward to that day!
I've been using MMB for navigation for years in several CADs , but I've found Maya Alt-navigation is much better. Set it in Modo, and now in Blender.
I like Maya Nav because it's really comfortable when you're using a mouse (I also set my Modo to Maya navigation), but I find it annoying when you need to use a stylus, for instance, when sculpting. Because sculpting is an actual thing in blender, I ended up getting used to it completely unintentionally.
I was so reluctant to switch from Maya to Blender too but now I can't go back to Maya for modelling - I do really miss using Arnold and xgen though.
I miss the Blinn material. It's so dumb but I like how they looked in the viewport :p I didn't miss Arnold because it didn't have GPU rendering originally.
@@ArmoredColony Agree about the Blinn, I do find the Maya viewport (without gradient) easier on the eyes for some reason. I like realistic skin and hair renders, so nice in Arnold, especially hair.
@@SW-lw6mt yeah I switched from the blue gradient to the solid gray as well. I try to do the same across every app
the only thing i miss from Maya is how fast i could place or orient pivot point to change mesh then. Yes, in Blender there is "create orientation", "g"+"g" and 3d cursor but its not dat fast and ez to use
There's an addon called Friendly Pivot, not free but very handy.
@@SW-lw6mt I thought you were going to say, not free but friendly :p
The new Smart Extrude looks fun too.
@@ArmoredColony It's not that great, SMART EXTRUDE is half baked in comparison to 3ds max, doesn't work on slanted faces leaves a whole lot of mess. Even 3ds max smart extrude can fail on medium complexity surfaces. But when they work smart extrude is awesome. But overall not much fun about it since deleting vertices in Maya is a problem in of itself. blender punchit add-on substitute only works on subtracting in comparison and only on single connected 'island' of faces AND it can't be cyclic, max doesn't have those limitations and Maya lags heavily with smart extrude when selecting a couple of faces.
So everything is terrible but Max is least terrible. Gotcha. The new features always look so nice in the trailers.
oh you are alive
Yeah, I was playing call of duty
I think it's a combo, I always wanted to use realtime viewport and oh boy I didn't expect cycles and evee being so nice to me. Plus all the free add-ons that come packaged with Blender already plus the easy of use of the shader editor. I mean, Maya is great if you are a studio and can afford your custom tooling and Maya itself, also, you can and will buy everything else Maya isn't great at. Is there a better solution for UV? I'm in! Sculpting, painting, oh, there's 200 dollar per seat addon? Bring it... So, yeah, I know Maya fan boys are just people that have worked on the induatry and can have it all, but if you really think about it, Blender is taking on Houdini, Zbrush, After Effects, you name it. It's not perfect, but can be very powerful to do some damage.
Agreed. It's so nice to have software that is so complete, and it's always exciting to see what's new in blender. I remember having a fun time UVing in Modo but that was a long time ago; although I think it was mostly because Modo has macros you can create and hotkey right then and there (no scripting or anything). I think more than fanboying it's the time and difficulty it takes to transition to other software. All the apps are so different from eachother, so it's hard to fault people who want to stick to what they know.
The mech design is fire! Also, I set the Blender interface theme to "Maya", best of both worlds : )
LoL, and thanks. It's an old project, I just needed some filler video. I was going for a Destiny ghost type thing.
Wait until you discover Plasticity hehe
Already have. Used it to create a rough base for these: armoredcolony.com/b/robocaps Which I detailed further in Blender because I wanted a subD model.
Only reason to switch is because Autodesk, enough said.
Blender is so much faster than Maya and has more meaningful updates. I honestly don’t see any need for using maya as opposed to Blender when factoring the price.
I came to the same conclusion. I do miss Maya's dynamic gizmo from time to time; and the new Smart Extrude looks like fun (like Blender's Punch it addon but as a native tool).
It might be dumb but it's the truth.
You’re not, don’t worry
a beginner had his mind blown up b4 started sculpting a sphere again :>
Can i ask besides blender its free why u did the jump from maya maybe u can do a video saying the goods and bads of those 2 worlds. Ah by the way ur channel is pure gold!
That sounds like a good idea. I'll try to make that vid. And thanks for the comment.
The main reasons I switched, but there's many more that are better for a longer video: ruclips.net/video/BIG6LBCq13M/видео.html
Thank you
Your helmet is fine. Honestly color goes a long way toward making things 'easy' to read or not. Or in their case, rest their lazy eyes. lol
True. Unfortunately, some people can't see all the colors we can see.
@@ArmoredColony Well even still, once there is contrast, materials and shadows and the whole sha-bang it will present differently. I think people just didn't see its potential when looking at the grey mold.
Agreed. That's why I always like to add some color, even very early on. It's another helpful way of creating contrast and therefore interest.
Mine is off but still so slow and laggy!
They fixed this particular bug a while back,so you're probably experiencing something else.
Except fusion 360 is NOT open source and it requires and account. This SUCKS. Blender need to add proper modeling features.
Any ideas on what they should add?
This was the video fo my dreams. Thank you SO MUCH !!
You dream with Blender?
super amazing sculpt dude
Thanks friend
Blender Bros do some interesting stuff, yet dont want to learn with not included in Blender, i need good solid basics.
Just keep in mind that topology is irrelevant if you do concept art. Also, there's nothing wrong with using blender add-ons if they save you time. Use whatever tools are available to you.
@@ArmoredColony Agree, and you can't escape addons, nor do i want to. Having a few issues with following along, figured out the part with bridgeing, in that i needed to 1st: select both objects/edge mode/ctrl-J/then bridge. Yet the CIRCLE isn't going so well, not complaining, i'll get there eventually. PS your script and its functions are a great asset. Kudos
Yeah, sorry. I could have made the tutorial a little better. I just saw a fun shape and figured I would give it a try with SubD, but that doesn't make my technique perfect by any means. And thanks for the kind words.
@@ArmoredColony Well the main reason i jumped into blender, was to try and 3d print a Star Citizen ship, yet, they're only meant for the Holoviewer, and i soon came to the conclusion it would be quicker to just learn Blender, and do it myself. All good bud
Then you're in luck. The 3d printer doesn't care about good topology; of course, it can help you create cleaner shapes, but my point is you are free to use any software you want. You can even use Plasticity or 3DCoat, but Blender is also one of the better choices, not because it is easy to use but because there's so much educational content out there and all it takes is the time and will to learn it. So just keep at it! Funny enough, I made a star citizen ship concept once, but I never used it for printing: www.artstation.com/artwork/agdQ9
....How....how would one make a shape like this in zbrush?
Knife curve and booleans
What if I'm looking to wave the white flag but don't intend to leave?
Wave away
Really cool!!
Thanks
Ok, this just saved me from madness. Thanks for sharing!
incredible work!
Thanks, friend

@@ArmoredColony Thank you a lot! Love your content
@@Carlosnl16 Thanks, friend
When will we have a video about the retopology of a model like this?
I would never retopologize a concept sculpt, no need for it.
@@ArmoredColony Cool, do you intend to do a tutorial for a full job, zbrush, retopology, uv map, texture, render?
I would never say never, but I'm not super inclined on retopo or UVs because I have no need of those at the time, but if I ever do then sure. You can use triplanar projection instead of UVs though. I'm actually working on a new tutorial right now, but it's going to be long so I will split it up into different tutorials (one for the sculpting process, another for texturing and rendering), still no retopo or UVs because I don't need to bake anything.
